Baking Soda and Vinegar: In the Home and Garden

About Me

Baking Soda and Vinegar: In the Home and Garden

Like many of us, I like to keep a clean house. Cleaning my kitchen and bathroom sinks, counter tops and vanities once presented a challenge. How so? I refuse to use harsh chemicals, mainly because of my children's allergies and asthma. I also prefer an environmentally-friendly cleaning solution. I've found all this and more, by cleaning with a homemade paste I make from baking soda and vinegar. This all-natural cleaning solution removes most of my everyday stains and grime with ease. I just scour the surface with a scrubby-type sponge and it's a breeze. In addition to kitchen and bathroom surfaces, I use baking soda and vinegar cleaning paste on my parrot's cage. There are no harsh chemicals or fumes, so it's also perfect for cleaning the toddler's room. Try the same solution diluted with a bit of water to kill your garden weeds. You'll be amazed!

Different Ways To Tackle Wasps In Your Home

Wasps inflict painful stings with their stingers. These stings can be particularly dangerous to anyone with a wasp allergy. And that's not all.

When wasps invade your home, they can cause extensive damage to it. For example, they can munch away the wood elements of your home to build their nests. If these nests are located in your home, they may create damp conditions that lead to additional problems, such as rot and mold.

If you see wasps in your home or yard, it is likely that a swarm or nest of wasps is not far away. While wasp control tactics vary depending on the specific species of wasps you have in your yard or home, here are some common methods used for tackling wasp infestations.

1. Wasp Sprays

If you have spotted wasp nests on your property, spraying them with insecticide is an effective way to kill the wasps. These insecticides, called wasp sprays, contain fast-acting ingredients that neutralize wasps.

While wasp sprays offer good wasp control, they should be used at night when foraging wasps have returned to their nests. Also, make sure you purchase a spray you can use from a safe distance. That way, you can minimize exposure to toxic substances that the spray may contain.

Repeated insecticide applications may be required to effectively remove wasps from your residential property.

2. Wasp Traps

Similar to termite baits, wasp traps are strategically placed in your home or yard to help attract and trap wasps. These hanging traps contain bait to lure many flying wasps inside.

Once inside, the insects will get trapped and drown in the soapy water contained in the traps. You will be left with many dead insects to discard.

3. Eliminating All Food And Water Sources

Like many pests, wasps are attracted to homes where food and water sources are readily available. As a result, an effective way to keep foraging wasps out of your home is to remove all food and water sources. These may include pet food cans, bird baths, and open rubbish bins.

While you can try to deal with wasps yourself, the best course of action is to contact a wasp extermination specialist to remove them from your property. Wasp control specialists know what interventions will work for your specific wasp problem, taking the guesswork out of the task. The best part is that they can also advise you on how to prevent wasps from returning to your home later.
